Ignorance and Oedipus

Ignorance is shown when someone or something has to face an obstacle in life.  The truth is sometimes to much to handle and that person shows their ignorant side.  In North Korea, the citizens are censored a lot of information from the government.  They are told a lot of propaganda and information that will only say part of the truth.  For example, during the world cup, when the leader of North Korea was Kim Jong-Il, he "allegedly decreed that no live matches will be shown on state TV and only highlights edited in North Korea's favor" ("North Korea to Censor World Cup Heavily" 1).  The leader has censored the truth and is basically telling the citizens what he wants them to know.  The citizens become loyal to the leader and believe what he says.  They are ignorant and do not accept the truth.  Instead they listen to their leader and accept the propaganda he tells them.  In Oedipus Rex, Oedipus is told by messengers and a lot of other people that he is the one who killed his father.  Oedipus is ignorant though and does not accept the truth.  Oedipus is very similar to the citizens of North Korea that do not accept the actual truth.  It just goes to show how a change can bring the ignorance out of them.
